About
Julie has been teaching, mentoring and tutoring for 28 years. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s degree in Special Education specializing in Learning Differences, has a private practice and has taught in both public and private school settings.
As a licensed teacher and certified, Professional Level, Educational Therapist she knows how important it is to have the right educational tools to support learning.
Simply put, I enjoy success for children! Making fast progress is important to parents and so I incorporate daily, online programs for students to work on between our weekly meetings. Keeping the student motivated and staying in touch with teachers and parents is the key to quick gains and confidence in students! My hourly rate is $60 an hour for much more than tutoring, I offer targeted learning and remediation.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to start with an academic assessment of the concern areas and then work specifically toward those areas while implementing the new strategies in to school work.
I also have a Release of Information form that the parent signs and sends to the school so that I can stay in touch with the teacher and support the student as a team.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
My background includes an undergraduate degree in Education as well as a Master's Level degree. I have been a licensed Ed. Therapist since 1995 and have taught in both public and private schools.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My standard pricing is ~$40 per 50 minute session.
How did you get started teaching?
My mother was a teacher and I was able to witness the love of teaching. I also had a child who struggled academically and socially that I was able to help succeed!
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with all ages, 5-45! Further, the students are always kids from the regular classrrom setting but may have areas that they struggle with, or may have missed somewhere in their learning.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
This is easy and I am lucky to see them often! I am currently working with a kindergartner who was just not picking up phonics in his classroom. Testing showed serious deficits in phonics, but after 3 weeks of twice a week sessions and a daily software program at home, it clicked! He got it, the light came on! That is always my greatest joy, whether they are 5 or 45!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for more than credentials, look for a tutor that is passionate for a student's growth and learning. Look for a tutor that you like, someone personable, afterall you are going to have to work hard with this person...you should like them!
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Ask how can they teacher help them identify exactly what they need to work on?
Ask if they will be in touch with your classroom teacher for additional input and support.
Ask what can YOU do to achieve better learning?
