Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
All children are given a FREE initial assessment to determine what year level they’re currently working at and to identify any learning gaps.
An individual learning program is then created to target exactly what your child needs help with. The program is carefully designed so that your child progresses at their own pace. Your child starts on the Kip McGrath program at the level suited to their current ability and knowledge.
The last step is to match your child with a fully qualified teacher that best fits their needs in reaching their educational goals and building their confidence towards a brighter future.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
All of our tutors have a degree or certification in education and have passed a background check.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
We have structured pricing bundles to choose from based on your child's assessment results which range from a flat rate of $49-$56 per hour. Each session runs for 1 hour.
How did you get started teaching?
Our founders, Kip and Dugnea McGrath, understood that every child learns differently and developed a methodology to help children to catch up and keep up in the core areas of English and Maths. Our programs were originally designed to help one of their children struggling to understand at school as they had been diagnosed with Dyslexia. Our small burst activities helped him make the progress needed to catch up. Now, more than 48 years later, Kip McGrath Education Centers are designed to help ALL children struggling with English and Math. We continue to tutor K-12 students all over the world to help them reach their full potential.
What types of students have you worked with?
Why do our methods work? This question is best expressed as “Why does Kip McGrath succeed where others have failed?” We don’t take a one size fits all approach to our teaching programs. Every program is customized for the child and everything we do can be measured.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Recently we have opened up our first learning center in America which is located in Frisco, Texas. Children came in and met our dedicated team, played games and won prizes.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
To the parents as we are K-12 focused: Make sure you do your research and find a program that would meet their personalized needs and ensure you find someone who will encourage them and reach them on a personal level. At Kip McGrath, we match them on a personalised level not just educationally, for example if your child is interested in soccer and we had a tutor with similar interests that teaches that program type we place them together. As much as we are educationally focused we believe that the learning experience is better with a solid tutor and student relationship and a bit of fun.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
When talking to the school about what your child needs in tutoring:
What area(s) do you believe he/she needs support in?
How do you think he/she is doing with comprehending the questions asked?
