Integrated Learning
About
I integrate learning from a variety of subject matter and genres. With over a decade of experience as a private and public school instructor, I approach teaching with a focus on helping students connect their learning to real life situations and individual interests. I help students find the links between the various subjects they are learning in order to solidify concepts and expand their overall understanding of course material.
Each student has an individual approach to gathering and applying information. In addition to being a certified k-12 Art Instructor, I have expanded my knowledge of differentiated instruction for diverse learners. I am passionate about harnessing students' personal interests and strengths in order to open their eyes to the wonders of learning and to awaken their curiosity about the world around them. I hold my BA from the University of Dallas, a private liberal arts university in Irving that focuses their program on creating independent thinkers. During my studies, I was priveleged to spend a semester abroad in Italy, studying the Art and Architecture of Italy and Greece.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I believe a key part of the learning process is developing rapport with my students through learning about their individual strengths and interests. Those are the springboards for igniting their interest in subjects which are challenging and perhaps uninteresting to them. I try in the beginning to get a solid grasp of their learning style, their struggles, and the things by which they are motivated. With that knowledge at the forefront, I can taylor the learning experience to suit their needs.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I hold a BA in Art from the University of Dallas, having spent a semester abroad to expand my knowledge of Art, History, Literature and Philosophy. I began my teaching career in the private sector, which allowed me to experience teaching modalities outside the public school norm. I then pursued and obtained my teaching certification in Texas, focusing of the area of Art Education. During my Public School teaching experience, I enhanced my teaching knowledge by attending numerous training sessions on social-emotional learning, differentiated instruction and working with at-risk students and diverse learners. In addition, I assist my current school system to help ELL students attain success in their core subject matter.
