About

Hello. My name is Dr. Tyler M. Smith. I am honored to be recognized as a "Top 10" Tutor by an international tutoring company. My company, Texas Family Tutors, is unique because we respect and adapt our services to each student's unique learning style, and learning environment (e.g., family, school, education, culture, language proficiency). Our tutors are trained, compassionate, high-performing in their own academics, and (when needed and available), offer bi-lingual assistance. Given the above, we offer a 7-point plan:

1. Meet the student and, when desired, meet the parents or guardians. Then listen and learn about the student and family’s tutoring needs, goals, school, as well as if or how the family would like to support the student between tutoring sessions.

2. Everyone has strengths. TFT identifies the student's strengths—not just struggles or goals—that are not always recognized in schools. Then, we listen for any home, family, cultural, or other strengths -- if they are volunteered -- that can support the student.

3. Conduct a brief, empowering, assessment of the student’s learning style.

4. Incorporate and support any existing Individualized Education Plan (IEP) the school may have. And, when needed and desired, offer additional resources to support this IEP.

5. Conduct tutoring in the setting that works best for the student and the family--whether the home, school, place of worship, or even a virtual setting.

6. Between tutoring sessions, provide brief (e.g., 15 minute) booster assistance (e.g., virtual, phone call, text). Booster assistance may either be scheduled mid-week, or our tutors can be flexible to take an unscheduled phone call in real time when questions naturally arise.

7. Celebrate progress and accomplishments -- however small or large--every week to motivate and empower the student!!

Tutoring for us is not just a job, it is also a calling! We love what we do because we realize that learning, achievement, confidence in oneself, and becoming a lifelong learner are among life's worthiest and most fulfilling goals. We are passionate about the fact that everyone can improve their learning and performance. The key is recognizing, and respecting, that each of us learns differently. We love working with students from their own learning styles and strengths -- two foundations on which to build academic excellence. We would be truly honored to be a part of your academic and learning team--in pursuit of your need, goal, desire, and quest to learn!
