How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching while in my MA program at Texas State University. I was carefully observed by a pedagogy professional, and learned many techniques to assist with language acquisition.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked largely with university students and adult professionals, but am open to working with people of all ages. I welcome any and all types of people and will always provide a safe space for my clients.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I run the language services department at a large psychiatric facility and I recently was able to start offering interpreter-mediated Spanish-language therapy groups.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find a person who makes you feel comfortable - you must feel comfortable to speak and make mistakes (this is a normal part of the process!). You should be able to ask questions without being made to feel small.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
If you have a teacher in school, have you already sought help from them? If not, I recommend doing so before paying for external/private tutoring.
