About

I have a more direct and comprehensive approach to learning languages that stems from the natural method of the late linguistic Hans Ørberg.

Whether you are studying for retention or simply to pass the test, I have a wide experience in Spanish, Latin and Italian that can help you feel like you are really learning, and reach your goals.

I enjoy seeing people succeed and achieve their goals. There is so much potential in each student, more than they themselves often realize, to tap into that potential is always extremely satisfactory for me.

Mr. Hanson is a fantastic teacher! I taught with him for two years and heartily recommend him to students of language (Latin, Spanish, Italian, English, Norwegian), math and philosophy. He teaches from a love for truth, he’s very well-rounded and makes study a breeze. I can’t speak highly enough of this man.

He is the best teacher I’ve ever had. He has a different method of teaching which is effective and makes learning enjoyable. I used to hate to read and write but after my time with him he’s taught me that learning is beautiful thing.

    Frequently asked questions

The most important thing for me is to understand the student's goals. Once I understand what they want from their sessions, it is a lot easier to make a plan to help them achieve their objectives.

I am fluent in 5 languages and have taught in an educational setting for many years. Not only do I have the experience of teaching but I have the experience of learning as well.

I charge $60 an hour, though first lesson is always half-price unless it goes over an hour.

It probably all began when I was in university in Europe when I was doing postgraduate work. New English-speaking-students would often come to me asking for help with their classes, which were all in Italian.

There were also many oportunities in the form of guided tours that I took advantage of.

Both of these experiences helped me discover what people were looking for, and then, reach their expectations.

I have worked with all types of students: from Italian middleschoolers learning English to students in rural America learning Latin and history. I have also worked in Suburban schools in different Texas cities.

At the end of my time at my last school, my students prepared a very touching going away party for me. At one point one of my students stood up and said: "Mr. Hanson was the first person to ever take me seriously". I will treasure that experience for the rest of my life.

I would tell them that they should look for someone who has achieved what they are trying to achieve.

I think the most important question is: What is the goal of the course? If that is not clear to the student then the teacher has the responsibility to clarify it.
