About

I'm a mom of two pre-teen boys, and since I was in junior high, I have had a knack for taking what the teacher said and "translating" it into a language that students could understand. I began tutoring my peers in high school and have continued to tutor, even while I was teaching, ultimately creating a business once I had children. Although it is my goal to "graduate" students to a point where they no longer require my help, some of my clients have retained my services from middle school through high school graduation. While I would prefer to work with students on a consistent basis over the course of a semester or a year, I am also available for less consistent and/or one-time sessions.

I have been tutoring for over 30 years. In that time, I have taught middle school, high school, and college classes in English, Science, and Math.

$65/hour; however prices may be negotiable.

I realized in junior high that I was good at helping my peers who were struggling. After several semesters of Engineering classes in college, I realized that my love of Physics and Engineering may not translate to a career in that field (I'm an incredibly outgoing person who talks a lot, and at the time, most Engineering students were extremely introverted and quiet), I decided to focus my talents elsewhere. Since I had a gift for teaching, it was a natural choice.

I have worked with all kinds of students: struggling students, students with LD, and students who just wanted to maintain good averages.

I actually enjoyed watching my boys learn remotely during this recent online learning experience we've all had. I got a chance to see them in their classroom environment (virtually), and I was able to see them from a different perspective and witness a different dynamic. It was enlightening for me as a parent, and I enjoyed seeing different parts of their personalities.

Personaltity goes a long way. No matter how knowledgeable a tutor may be, if you don't have a connection with that person, it's more difficult to learn from him/her, so make sure you're comfortable, and ASK questions!

Know as much as you can about your own style of learning, and communicate this to your tutor. Good teachers can adapt their teaching to many different learning styles, but we need to know where to begin.
