About
**I am a multi-location science tutor who can travel within 15 miles of Baton Rouge Monday-Thursday and within 15 miles of Lake Charles Saturday-Sunday!**
Also, I have had the unique privilege to work in the field and in a classroom - which helps me to help your student understand real world applications of Biology, Ecology, and beyond!
Watching a student's reaction when they finally grasp a concept that they were struggling with, you can see the confidence on their face :).

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I typically will ask to meet (virtually or in person) with the student *and* parent for the first meeting, which will be exclusively set aside to establish a game plan, for this reason, the first meeting is only $20. Then, if we establish that we are 1) a good fit and 2) able to meet regularly, we can move forward with scheduling! I am happy to meet with students alone, in groups, or with a parent present - I want YOU and your student to be comfortable and aware of what we're learning!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BS in Environmental Biology from Tulane (2019) and a MS in Ecology & Evolutionary Biology, als from Tulane (2020, 3.94 GPA)!
I am a published author of scientific and non-scientific literature (with another ornithology paper in the works right now), and I run a science literacy and communication blog, which you can find on my website.
Currently, I am teacher at The Dunham School in Baton Rouge, which is highly regarded for their science education and creative STEM programming - I teach College Prep, Honors, and AP Biology!
Additionally, I have years of research/field experience under my belt. To name a few positions, I worked as an avian reproductive ecologist in Ecuador, a botany lab tech in New Orleans, and a forensic/biogeochemical lab tech in NYC. I was also a head researcher on a project that placed 3rd at the International Science & Engineering Fair in 2014!
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Given my experience, my tutoring services begin at $70/hr. If you decide to do 2+ hrs, the hourly rate reduces to $55.
For group tutoring, I charge $40/hr per student. My maximum group size for a one hour session is 3, for 2+ hours it's 5!
How did you get started teaching?
I have always had a passion for learning, and what better way to learn than to teach! :)
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students all over the map in terms of experience, interest, and effort. I also have some experience working with students on the spectrum and ESL students, though I would not call myself an expert in that arena, I would be happy to talk to your student to see if we would be a good fit!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Don't just hire the first person you talk to - you need to feel comfortable with them and confident in their ability to work with you!
