Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to speak with the student by phone to get an idea how I can help them. Once I know what they need, I develop a strategy that works best for the student to give them the help they need. Some students just need paper editing while others need more in-depth discussions to help them succeed.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am currently working on teacher certification. However, I hold a BSBA in Finance and a Master's degree.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$20/hr K-12 ($15/hr after first hour per session)
$25/hr College level
$30/hr Master's level
$40/hr Doctorate level
How did you get started teaching?
I have done substitute teaching for years while my kids were growing up. I have always wanted to pursue teaching and this is a perfect opportunity while I am working on certification.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with kids at all age levels, including college master's level.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
When hiring a tutor, a student should collect their thoughts about what they want to accomplish the most from tutoring. It can be very costly to hire a tutor and before each session, if the student can make notes and narrow the scope of what they need, tutoring can be most effective.
