I am a retired teacher. I tutor students ages 5-10 in all elementary subject areas. I have been doing online tutoring for 3 years. Currently, I am certrified through the Texas Education Agency for: Reading K-12, and Elementary Education. The enjoyment I receive from tutoring allows me to watch the progress of the students I am workimg with. Children develop at different stages. When one of my students finally understands a concept, and can incorportate it into their learning, it makes me smile.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to talk to the parent and get to know a little about their child. (i.e. educational needs, hobbies, activities, etc. I also like to talk with the teacher (if a teacher is involved) to make sure we are on the same page. If schoolwork is an issue, dialogue is important between parent, teacher and tutor. I will work to ensure there is ample communication between everyone. My goal is to help students achieve academic success.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been working in the area of reading for many years. I have had the opportunity to teach many struggling readers how to read and I have trained numerous teachers best practices of teaching reading techniques.
