Prosper Tutoring
About
I enjoy teaching, which includes motivating and sparking a desire to learn in others. Armed with a Gen Ed K-4th grade teaching certification and K-12 Spec Ed certification, I have over 15 years teaching experience in elementry school third and fourth grades in central Texas. With that being said, I am used to working toward a definitive goal of end-of-year testing, as well as working under pressure. My students have always performed above average on the end-of-year testing. This comes with purposeful teaching, goal-setting for students and focus. Above all, I enjoy working with students and teaching them, not only subject matter, but HOW to learn.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
In meeting a new student, I like to know the history of their education, their performance, their preferences, their interests, and their needs. Becoming familiar with their learning style is of great help and cuts to the chase of how to initially teach the student. For instance, is the student more hands-on with manipulatives, or a good listener who can take information and apply it to an activity or answer questions?
Reading levels are at the root of all learning and teaching. I like to begin with running records (assessment of reading level as well as math fluency). This is maintained and updated to show growth of the student. Fluency and comprehension in reading aids in a more in-depth understanding of math, its requirements, calculations, and solutions.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a general education certification for grades K-4 and special education certification for grades K-12. I am also certified in gifted and talented (GT) and English language learning (ELL).
I have been in business for 20 years, prior to teaching in public school. I have a business degree with emphasis in finance, management, and logistics.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $30 per hour of instruction. It is important to have a schedule of meeting 2 times per week for an hour each time - preferably Tuesday and Thursday in order to have a feel for homework requirements (to add to or assist with) and student expectations.
How did you get started teaching?
I have 2 children myself, and after they graduated from college, I missed them - their enthusiasm, watching them grow, their creativity, freshness, and uniqueness. I wanted to work with young people again and teach, introduce, and inspire.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have began teaching 2nd through 4th grades in reading and math resource, then switched to regular education in 3rd and 4th grades for the past 14 years. I have worked with students who are testing low in reading and math, as well as high functioning students.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I have had students assigned to my class who were very low in math and reading, and not expected to pass the STAAR. We ended the year with 97% math passing and 89% reading passing rates!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would advise you to find a teacher with passion for teaching, creativity, and experience.
