About
I am a retired lead teacher in Algebra I. Not only have I taught at the high school level, but math at the middle school level and Principles of Accounting at the college level. I have tutored many students from inner city students trying to pass STAAR, to friends of my children taking accounting, to neighbor kids preparing for the next school year and to students working to improve their Algebra I grades at a CCISD high school. Breaking down the often confusing material to smaller parts with clear explanations has proven helpful to students for many years.
Clarifying the mysteries of Algebra, other math, and accounting, for students is challenging and enjoyable for me. I love to see students improve and achieve competency in the subject. They don't have to "love math" but develop where they are no longer terrified and saying "I hate math."
Being around young people wanting to be better and working to be better is extremely gratifying.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to interview the student to understand what their goals are and what their concerns are. If it is a younger student I will also talk to the parent about their goals and concerns. Hearing what the student needs, I prepare materials to help accomplish everyone's goals.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a retired lead Algebra 1 teacher who has been tutoring for the STAAR Algebra 1 test for the last 6 years at a Houston high school as well as tutoring Algebra 1 students to improve their skills. I have also worked with students getting ready for the new school year and college students struggling with accounting. I have a BS in Mathematics and an MS in Accountancy.
