About
I have been teaching/mentoring youth since I volunteered at an Elementary scool in 2015. I have earned my Associates Degree and Bachelor's of Science in Human Services teaching youth literacy and English.
I have taught youth programs, coached at-risk youth to pursue school or G.E.D. and have worked 1 on 1 with students as a special education paraprofessional improving test scores as well as reintegrating students back to the classroom/peer group.
I also have started my own tutoring business called 'Village Child' where my motto is "It takes a village to tutor a child." I started my company to help youth become literate and stronger at reading.
Some of my passions are writing, reading and performing arts (theatre) which I incorporate in my teaching style (reading voices, dramatized reading etc.)
I enjoy watching a students face light up and eager to learn because of the great time we spend in our lessons coming from a fun to learn approach.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My typical process when working with a student is to make literacy and learning English fun! I do this several ways, by utilizing Dr. Seuss or Pete the Cat books (kid friendly stories) to get language across and communicate words. I also do 'Popcorn reading' or do dramatized readings so I'll embody a character or ask my students to in order to make the lesson fun and so they're receptive to the learning process because learning reading or writing can be dull if not made interesting by the teacher.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have an Associate's in Arts and Bachelor's of Science in Human Services.
Prior knowledge in case management and youth programs coordinating services.
Community Coaching working with At-risk youth.
Paraprofessional skills tutoring in small groups or one on one.

My pricing is $50/hr.
How did you get started teaching?
I began by being a paraprofessional for Special Education in 2018 because I felt I could give back to youth by teaching/tutoring.
What types of students have you worked with?
Students with Learning Differences such as ADHD, ADD, Autism Spectrum etc.
Students with behavioral challeges.
Students with delayed developmental challenges.
Students with PTSD (Or Trauma based challeges).
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
At North Metro Flex Academy, a new charter school that was running on it's second year in 2018 was struggling with closing the Achievement Gap between Students of Color and White Students.
There, I was a Paraprofessional for Special Ed. But facilitated as a Cultural Liaison starting a 'Breakfast Program' for African-American and other students who were low income that struggled in homework. For 30 minutes in the morning I had a sub-homeroom practicing literacy and writing so their reading skills would get stronger, I think extra breakfast was a good incentive too as well as gave students energy in the morning to perform on tests or finish their homework because many weren't just lethargic they were starving and it's very hard to focus when you haven't fed yourself so your mind can begin learning! To my surprise by the end of the year test scores were up and they reintegrated back into their peer group/classrooms performing at the same rate as their peers and that's how I helped close the Achievement Gap issue.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Be Open-minded to learning alternatively because "One Traditional Size" doesn't fit all.

How can this teacher relate or help?
Can they understand and empathize with my circumstances?
