Elsa Cardenas-Hernandez loves working for the Irving ISD Libraries and helping students achieve their educational and professional goals.
Mrs. Cardenas-Hernandez graduated from the University of Texas in Arlington with Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Undergraduate Certification in Spanish. As an Irving ISD graduate. Elsa returned to the district she attended school as a child and began teaching as a secondary forgien language teacher. In her second year she demonstrated excellent leadership skills and became the World Languages Department Chair. As her passion grew for technology and literacy she sought a Masters’ degree in Educational Technology and Library Science from the University of Texas A&M of Commerce. She transitioned from secondary to elementary school as a full time teacher librarian media specialist. In this role, she designed, implemented, coordinated, and assessed the library instruction program. She has served on the school leadership team and mentored several new school librarians.
Mrs.Cardenas-Hernandez serves on numerous committees for her school and district. She is an advocate for professional development and a member of numerous professional organizations. She sponsors many student clubs and organizations at her school including National Elementary Honors Society, Spelling Bee, Makerspace Club, Coding Club, Book Club and KBUF Broadcasting. She is an advocate for information literacy and is passionate about developing ethical researchers and savvy consumers of information.
