About
My name is Matthew Hammon and I have been a state-certified Social Studies teacher in the state of Texas since June of 2015. Since the 2013-2014 academic year I have been teaching in public high schools in Houston, TX, the most diverse city in the United States, following a decade in the non-profit sector upon graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Political Science from the University of Houston. In December of 2022 I completed my Master of Arts degree in Global Affairs with a concentration in Global Economics and Development from the University of Oklahoma, while teaching AP Macroeconomics and AP US Government and Politics full time in Houston. The pandemic necessitated a pivot to online teaching and learning, a format I connected with immediately. In January of 2023 I began tutoring students all over the world (Latin America, Europe, Canada, and China) in AP Macro and Microeconomics online in my evenings and weekends, and went full-time with online teaching as of the 2024-2025 academic year. Through the years my students have been accepted to major Ivy League universities such as Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Penn, Dartmouth, Cornell, Brown, and Columbia, as well as major public universities and colleges throughout the United States, Canada, and the UK, many of whom have majored in Economics in those schools, inspired by their experiences in my economics courses in high school. I have 8 years of full-time experience teaching AP Macroeconomics, AP Microeconomics, AP US Government and Politics, and IB Economics, and my passion for teaching these courses increases each year. In my spare time I enjoy keeping up with global affairs, writing and producing music, fixed-gear bicycling, and streaming noir procedural films and series.
