I have a music degree in voice and have been playing piano my whole life! I teach sight reading and ear training for piano and voice, as well as audition prep and music theory. I have been in choir and vocal performances for over 20 years and know how to get my students ready for audition season!
I just love teaching! I love helping people achieve their goals. I especially love finally being able to tackle a particularly difficult goal and discovering the right way to explain to my students how to reach it. It is so rewarding and fulfilling to see that "Yay I got it!" moment in their eyes. It really is a Journey that we take together!
Cortney has years of experience that she brings to every lesson. She is great at intuitively understanding your needs and finding a way to reach goals. I highly recommend her!
Courtney was not only knowledgeable, but also personalized my classes to my experience level and voice. She made suggestions that were very helpful and even introduced me to a song that is still one of my favorites to sing. She's great!
Cortney Prescott takes time to really listen to her students. She was able to teach me sight reading and music theory and if I didn't understand something, she would try different techniques until we found the one that suited me best! It really was a journey that we took together!
Cortney was helpful in helping me determine my register, and she worked with me on how to cleanly and quickly transition from chest voice to head voice and back. She's also a fun teacher and brings a lot of enthusiasm!
I can teach basic or advanced classes in voice and music reading. The first lesson will be to asses the skill level of the student and we'll work from there!
Bachelor's degree in voice and over 25 years of piano training!
$20 for a 30 minute lesson and $40 for a 1 hour lesson.
I have been a teacher in some capacity for over 10 years. But I started my private music studio when I was in the play Oklahoma and they needed a person last minute to play piano for a music rehearsal. I filled in that day, and they asked me to be the music director for the whole show! Then they asked me to come back and teach voice lessons for that season and I've had my own music studio ever since!
I work with students of all ages and backgrounds! I have had adult and children students in the past, and have taught musical theatre and classical voice training. Piano includes sight reading and music theory.
I am currently a part of The Houston Dinner Dective which is a murder mystery dinner theatre. I can definitely use this experience, as well as my theatre background, to help students incorporate acting with their pieces, as well as teaching improv drills to help with stage presence.
Get a teacher who will really listen to you. I can't tell you how many times I've wanted to go a different direction than where I was at and a teacher told me it wasn't the right decision. It was a very frustrating experience. Even if there is a specific curriculum to follow, it is still important to find a teacher who will listen to your wants and needs.
For me personally, don't worry about it. I will always do my best to meet the needs of my students! All you have to do is let me know!
