Understanding Math And Science
About
"Math is Money," I tell my students. I want them to start believing that understanding math is a key component in managing the financial aspects of their lives; not just for getting a high score in a class or standardized test. My aim is to make students become proficient, confident and comfortable with math. Therefore, I emphasize the basic concepts to improve their long term retention and problem solving skills. In 2022, I taught 8th grade Algebra and 9th grade geometry at the Awty International School in Houston, as a substitute teacher.
The smile on their faces when they "get it" is the same, whether they are in graduate school or 10th grade. As a professor of pharmaceutical sciences, I taught/mentored university students at many levels: undergraduate, graduate (MS, PhD)and post-doctoral (MD, Ph.D) students. The general area was pharmacology is involved the application of mathematical and statistical theory/concepts/methods to improve patient drug treatment.
Many students struggled because they missed the basics in high school. Filling this void is the biggest reason I decided to tutor. If so, why am I charging? Over the years I have learned that people don't value anything that is free. For that, they need a skin in the game. However, I provide performance based discounts to students, I.e., grade improvement.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Make them comfortable and provide a good learning environment.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have tutored students in math from grades 6 - 12. I was a university professor of pharmaceutical sciences for almost 4 decades and taught/mentored students at all levels - undergraduate, graduate, post- graduate (Ph.D., M.D.) students. I focused on helping them understand theoretical (i.e., mathematical) aspects of drug action and their clinical applications (I.e., drug treatment).
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Not really, except for an affordable hourly rate. I do make exceptions for deserving students.
