Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We start out with a placement test. This gives an idea as to what mathematical level individual students are on. We pinpont those trouble spot and help them to grow.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been in education for over 20 years. I have a B.S. Degree in Early childhood education and a Masters Degree in C.I. in Mathematics. I have taught students ages 1- 12. Which also includes working for an afterschool program and helping students with their daily homework and my current public school position. In addition, I've held a position as daycare director, assistance daycare director and manager, and helped churches set the groundwork for youth programs.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
How did you get started teaching?
I come from a family of preachers and teachers. After watching my grandmother for years I knew exactly what I wanted in.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with gifted students and students with special needs and other special educational concerns.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I love it when the lightbulb comes on for a student. After tutoring a student for some time to grasp a concept, the student finally got. The look of excitement and confidence on the students face gave me so much joy!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find someone who connects with you child. It is very hard to learn and that connection is not there. The tutor should want to be not only an advocate for your child's education, but for their positive character and their social and emotional well being.
