Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Prior to working with a student, we will take the first 15 minutes of the first tutoring session to find out the student's preferences and styles of learning. Afterward, we will work through and narrow down to what the student struggles with the most in the current topic and clarify the misunderstanding at the root of the problem.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Both of us graduated with honors for BS of Biology with Chemistry Minor. Khanh Vu- Magmna Cum Laude. Vy Vu- Summa Cum Laude.
Previous teaching assistant positions in University and teaching positions throughout childhood. Previously offered private tutoring for K-12 for family's friends. Currently or previously held tutoring position at local tutoring centers.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$25+ per hour for subject tutoring. Tutoring will be offered as a one-on-one tutoring block for one hour. You cannot stop the tutoring session midway, please be well-aware to be on-time for tutoring, there is only a 15 minutes wait window period. Payments are made prior to the tutoring session and are nonrefundable.
$35+ per hour for ACT/SAT preparation. We only offer math (SAT/ACT) and science (ACT) test preparation at this time. This is will be offered as a 1-2 hour block. We will focus on working through practice questions for the best results. Payments are made prior to the session and are non-refundable.
Both online and in-person tutoring are offered. If in-person, we will meet at a coffee shop for the tutoring session. Please make note that we will NOT be going to the student's home for any tutoring session as a safety precaution (no exception).
How did you get started teaching?
Teachers requested our participation as teaching assistants and in teaching positions.
What types of students have you worked with?
We have worked with students from K-12 grade formally and have tutored peers in undergraduate courses informally.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Be enthusiastic and do not be afraid to ask questions when uncertainty arises. It allows both you and the teacher to maximize the time alloted for tutoring and bring the best results for your understanding.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
If the student has books and notes from school, please bring the materials for the tutoring sessions. Bring stationery tools and calculator if needed. We will not be able to provide the stationery tools at the tutoring sessions. It is the student's responsibility to be prepared.
If you are working on test preparation, bring your books and materials if you have any. Write down any questions you have and we will work through them with you. If you do not have any review materials, please let us know ahead of time so we can prepare some for you.
For younger students, please contact and let your parents or guardian knows when your session will be ending. It is the guardian's/parent's responsbility to pick you up on time. As tutors, we are not responsible for your safety after the tutoring session has ended.
