I am a retired teacher with 45 years teaching kindergarten, early childhood and early elementary. I am passionate about teaching phonics and reading, as well as number sense. I aim for children to find success in school and develop a love of learning. I recently retired from teaching kindergarten for 35 years at Trinity Valley Private school in Fort Worth. I am planning to substitute teach and am interested in tutoring.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I evaluate the child to see the areas of improvement. Then use hands on activities to enhance the lessons taught. I reteach as necessary until the skill is mastered.

How did you get started teaching?
I have always loved teaching beginning with helping my younger brothers with their spelling words. As a beginning teacher, I sought new ideas to help children learn and as a seasoned teacher that passion confinued

Describe a recent event you are fond of.
My final class surprised me with a memory book of their wishes for my retirement including a photo of them with their wish.
My school honored me with an honorarium in my name to our summer program where one entering kindergarten child may attend a class without charge.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Be sure the teacher understands what your specific needs are as well as your goals.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Honesty is always best. Be specific with areas needing help.
