About
I love to see my students success. A little hard work, some positive feedback and the lights come on. They might even realize that they love math (or English, or science or whatever subject) and CAN succeed with it.
I have been a teacher and professor all my career, both in the US as well as Mexico, Japan, Spain and Korea.
My teaching credential is from the University of Colorado with a BA Degree in Biology. I also have a Masters Degree in Linguistics and a graduate credential in TESOL(Teaching English) from the University of Utah.
I have taught both high school and university classes. I love teaching and I love seeing my students succeed. And they do!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
At first it is important to get to know each other a bit, then onto what the students goals are, what is the time frame, and how best does that particular student pick up and learn new ideas.
Then we can draw the map of how best to reach the goals established by the student.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Have taught all levels, from junior high to university.
AA Environmental Biology, MSAC Community College
BA Biology. Secondary Teaching Credental, Science and Math. Student teaching in Mexico. University of Colorado.
MA Linguistics. Graduate Credential in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other
Languages). University of Utah.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Flexible pricing system depending on number of students, dedicated hours, level of difficulty or specialization and time frame.
Average $22-28 per full class hour..
How did you get started teaching?
My first full-time teaching job was at Ueno Gakuin, a high school in Hiroshima, Japan. On a one year contract a enjoyed it so much that I stayed for a second year and my lifetime love of teaching had been sparked.
What types of students have you worked with?
During my career I've worked with all types of students, each one unique and different. Taught in university classes where there might be 15 different languages represented. Worked in classrooms where all were Japanese or all Korean or all Mexican. Taught English to high-ranking Italian Jet pilots here in the States to learn English...and practice flying jets.
But all the same in that they needed just a bit of encouragement and engaged teaching to get interested in the subject and realize that they could succeed with it on their own terms.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Mothers Day dinner today included a turkey. My nephew, in the Marine Corps, visiting for a few days from Okinawa on leave was nominated to carve the turkey, which he really did not want to do. Why was obvious as the right side of hat bird was butcher's. Before he started on the second side, many around the table had shared their tips and tricks for slicing a bird professionally. As Kyle tried to apply these, continued encouragement was offered and the second half of the turkey was cleanly carved, and I am sure that next time against that situation my nephew will volunteer to carve... and pass on what he learned today.
Good tutoring is really just carving the turkey....correctly.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Meet together while still discussing the basics. Meet for a cup of coffee or tea. All details of contract in detail and in writing. I usually offer two free classes so a student can decide for themselves that we can work together. Student needs to know that it is their level of commitment that will most contribute to their success but they should always expect that 110% level from the tutor, as well.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students should be clear about:
Fees
Time, dates and location of class
Absences and tardies
Clear objectives
Timeline for reaching objectives
Start date
Materials needed
Type of interaction (face to face, online, combination)
Any other questions.
