About

I've always been passionate about literacy and hope to instill a love of reading within my students! I'm certified to teach 4th-8th grade core subjects and EC-12 special education in Texas and currently serve as a Dyslexia Interventionist. I have taught middle school English in Dallas, TX, and currently teach 5th-8th grade literacy to students in special education. My experience in both the classroom and the virtual world prepared me to adapt to any situation!

I'm also a graduate student at SMU, earning my Master's degree in Education. My graduate degree specializations are literacy studies and urban education. A graduate of The Ohio State University, I have 4 years of experience working at Kumon Math and Reading Centers. I have more than 7 years of tutoring experience.

I'm willing to develop personalized study materials and practice tests upon request. I primarily tutor in middle and high school reading. This is just a brief summary of my experience so please feel free to reach out if you have any questions. I look forward to working with you!

When I begin to tutor a student, I see them as MY student. I invest my time and energy into crafting development plans and tracking student progress every step of the way. I live for those ah-ha moments!

Watching students become more confident and skilled in their literacy work brings me so much joy. The growth (and accompanying student pride) is the best part of being a teacher!

Frequently asked questions

In the first session, I analyze student work to determine a baseline level of achievement. I identify the areas of need and may administer a diagnostic assessment to confirm them.

Once we've established the specific skills that the student needs to target, I provide direct instruction in these areas. I also develop custom activities for the students to practice and we work through misconceptions together. We move on once the student has mastered the skill.

Some students may want to complete their schoolwork during our tutoring sessions. In that case, I would ask the student to give a weekly form to their teacher. This form keeps me up-to-date with how the student is performing in the classroom and how I can supplement that instruction.

In May, I will be graduating with my Master of Education from SMU. One of my specializations is literacy studies, so I am prepared to meet students where they are in their English education!

I worked at Kumon Math and Reading centers for years, both as a teacher and a manager. I have tutored for nearly a decade. I'm a dually certified teacher in the state of Texas (all subjects 4th-8th grade and Special Education preschool-12th grade) and serve as the dyslexia interventionist at my school.

No matter what your students' needs are, I will use data-based instructional strategies to help them grow. I would love to talk about any specific concerns you have and create an action plan.

My standard pricing system is below. If your family is interested but unable to meet these hourly wages, please reach out and we can work together.

Students need to think about when they feel uncomfortable or less confident in their schoolwork. Typically, these are the areas we need to grow in! Teachers are here to help you fill those gaps and build your confidence, but first, we need to know how you are feeling about the subject.

What classes do your dread going to? When do you zone out the most in that subject? When do you have the most questions that you are afraid to ask? Thinking critically about these moments will lead you to what you are struggling with.

Once you know where you need help, you need to think about how you learn best. When are you the most engaged in class? What is your teacher doing and what are you learning about in those moments? What motivates you? What do you enjoy doing outside of school?

Using the answers from those two categories, we can develop a plan to get you back on the path to success!
