I love English literature and writing, and am excited to share that with students. I have a BA in English with a writing concentraion and an MS in secondary education. I have been teaching middle school English for two years and am certified in the state of Texas for grades 7-12. I can help you better understand and analyze both classics and modern literature, and help with with any sort of writing, whether writing a research paper, your SAT essay, or your college essay

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My typical process it to first ask a news student what my student's goals are? Is my new students here for literature or writing or both? For litearture tutoring, we will read books as well as literary criticism of such books when working with upper level high school students. We will analyze characters' and actions and behaviors. We will study setting including historical context. For writing, I will first review a student's writing sample. If working on writing for SAT/ACT essay prep, we will review the prompt and look at model essays.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BA in English and an MS in secondary education.
How did you get started teaching?
I got started in teaching right after I graduated from college. I did an alternative certification program, where my first year out of college was student teaching, and I have been a teacher of record for two years after that.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with grades 7-9 in the classroom setting, and I have tutored adults, but I can work with any grade.
