About
I am a highly qualified and Texas Certified Math k-12 Teacher. I have taught in the classroom for 8+ years. I began teaching at the college level, in remedial mathematics. I then began teaching at the High School Level, teaching geometry, algebra 1, Math Models, and now Geometry PreAP as well as a PSAT Prep Instructor for 3 years. I love learning about my kiddos, and finding ways to make what I do every day intentional, purposeful and driven with a smile and the ability to have a good day. I want to make sure those I tutor are just as involved as I am in their own learning, and are able to take responsibility for their goals, failures, and successes. I want to help them see themselves, well, so that when they are given educational knowledge, they already know what they want to do with it. I have been nominated 2 years in a row as a Teacher of the Year in my district, and highly value the postition I hold every day. This is just another way to send a positive message to all the kiddos in the world who are finding their way :-)
Laughing, having fun, and making learning interesting!

How did you get started teaching?
I worked as a graduate teaching assistant during my masters coursework at Stephen F. Austin State University. I really loved being around other people all day, and telling them some neat stuff about how the world works using Math. So I decided to leave my masters coursework and begin working as a secondary math teacher in the area. I have now been teaching for 8 years, and love it more every year!
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with all age groups, mostly at the secondary level teaching 9th-11th grade. I have worked in several different districts with wide ranges of demographics.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Enjoying each day with my students, having fun, laughing, and using some geometry. :)
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Be prepared to own what you know, and what you don't. Be ready with questions. "I don't understand anything" isn't a question. It is a blanket statement that removes you from taking ownership of your learning. If the person being tutored isn't interested in getting better, neither am I!
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
1. What things they remember of the content they are involved in. Make a list. Bullets of things you KNOW.
2. What your GOAL is. Do you want to Pass? Do you want to Excell? It is your choice, and the outcome is entirely dependant on you.
3. Be specific on what topics you do not understand. Know what topics are to be studied for upcoming exams etc.
4. Own it. Don't come expecting a result. Come expecting a plan, and course of action on your end.
