Howdy! I’ve spent many years in a student-facing position in higher education as a program manager at Texas A&M University. Working with students is truly my calling and I’m so fortunate to have been able to make it my career. Several years ago, I was asked to teach a freshman experience course, and it forever changed my life. I had volunteered for literacy programs and tutored for test prep, but being in the classroom was surreal. I knew that I wanted to return to school and get my PhD in history so that I could research and lecture, because working with students and teaching is the passion I never knew I had. Sometimes, life throws us unexpected blessings at odd and chaotic moments, but you take those chances because opportunities are sometimes hard to come by and blessings aren’t found on every corner.

I work with such a fascinating and diverse population of students in my job. I care about each of them and harbor a great deal of joy in learning who each of them are. I believe that the only way I can help a student overcome adversity or find success in a subject is by building morale and an independent attitude for success.

I enjoy working with all age groups. I have 2 sons who are 9 and 13. My 13-year-old is Autistic with ADHD and I am very capable and comfortable working with those who have IEPs, or need individualized plans. While I work well with younger kids and have always enjoyed coaching them, my primary efforts have been with rising high school graduates and college students. Test prep and foundational, core curriculum coursework in the humanities has been my go-to for many years. It’s what I enjoy instilling a spark in young(er) learners with, and I know some of the lower level freshman writing courses can be daunting. Honestly, I love the humanities and want to share that joy with all students, no matter their age.
