Tyler’s Tutoring

About

The motto is “Everybody has to start somewhere.”

Every doctor, engineer, researcher, CEO...etc all started as a beginner. Right now, you may be just starting out in college yet you’re already struggling in class.

I have been there, and I am still going through it. I know it’s frustrating and sometimes too difficult to understand, but that is exactly why I want to help guide you.

•Background;

I am currently a sophomore, majoring in materials science and engineering, with hopes of earning my MSc and PhD in the future.

I love to study and learn about a wide range of sciences, but particularly chemistry. I also have a passion for teaching, and making complex concepts into simple ideas.

Frequently asked questions

I ask for areas where students are struggling. Then, I begin to explain the basic terminology of the chapter and progress to more advanced aspects of each section.

If a student already has a basic understanding of the chapter, then I will generally begin at a more advanced level, while still incorporating the basic concepts.

•Individual

1 hour: $40/hr

2 hours: $30/hr

3+ hours: $25/hr

•Group (3 or more)

1 hour: $30/hr Per person*

2 hours: $20/hr Per person*

3+ hours: $15/hr Per person*

I will NOT solve homework, quiz, or exam questions FOR clients. I will teach the concepts and processes necessary to solve problems.

I do not guarantee improvement in grades, as learning is subject to the individual. Regardless of class or tutoring, ample studying and completion of assignments are still the responsiblility of the student.

I have mostly been involved with informal tutoring, or study groups, where I would casually give advice and teaching moments inside and outside of class.

Mostly average students.

However, the spectrum ranges from higher level advanced peers, who needed help with understanding mathematical equations in chemistry, to very beginner intro students, learning about differences in ionic and covalent bindings.

ANYONE is welcome to learn!

Recently, on the week of September 11th, I taught a student how to calculate molecular mass, molarity, and dilutions.

On that same week, I taught another student about solubility rules and the nomenclatures used in chemistry.

•Do not be afraid to ask questions! Asking questions is one of the best ways humans learn.

•Please be respectful of yourself and others! It is my time to teach, but it is also your money and your education.

•Do not be scared to said “I dont know!” I want you to be successfull and find the right answer by solving, not guessing. To do that, you have to admit when you’re just guessing.

•I personally want you to be able to show off what you have actually learned, and not just the grade you walk away with after class.

•Do not thank me for tutoring! Instead, appreciate the person you see in the mirror for valuing education more than just the number grade, for actually understanding the material, and the biggest achievement; being confident enough in yourself to ask for help.

My biggest tip;DO NOT BE AFRAID OF FAILURE!

•Instead, think about where you failed and how you could be right next time.

•Think about why you got it wrong. Was it because of a small math error, or did you confuse two completely different concepts?
