About
2 years of experience private math tutoring. Previously employed at Mathnasium of Northwest Hills in Austin, Texas. Extensive experience with high school math curriculums, especially in NW Austin area. Can tutor Calculus. Extensive experience turning abstract math concepts into intuitive ones, especially through visual reasoning.
I am currently a second year student at UCLA pursuing degrees in Math and Computer Science. My study of higher mathematics has helped me to develop an intuition for math that I share with my students. Intuitive understanding of math is often difficult to come by in typical circumstances due to the focus in secondary-school mathematics on rules memorization and symbol-pushing, as opposed to deep conceptual understanding. One of my goals as a tutor is to emphasize to students that mathematics is a descriptive language for nature, and it is best understood as such rather than a collection of symbols and rules.
I have tutored a wide variety of students with different backgrounds and levels of mathematical knowledge. My experience includes helping clients prepare for standardized tests (AP, SAT Math etc).

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to first know my students' disposition towards mathematics; whether it is an activity they enjoy, dislike, or are apathetic towards, and why. This helps me to guage their prior experience with mathematics. I then generally ask students to recall some topics they learned in certain math classes, and like to give a short list of problems to better understand where the students' strengths and weaknesses are.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
My studies of mathematics in college have led to a great many intuitive insights about high school and entry-level college mathematics. Coursework I have completed include analysis, topology, and some abstract algebra. Additionally, during my time working at Mathnasium I was trained in math pedagogy and learning strategies.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$30 hourly. For sessions shorter than 1 hour: $20 for 30min, $25 for 45min.
$25/hr for online sessions.
How did you get started teaching?
I often assisted my peers in math classes in high school and always found it to be enjoyable. This led to my employment at Mathnasium, and later private tutoring.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students from 1st through 12th grade, in subjects ranging from arithmetic to Calculus.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I recently finished reading Set Theory by Herbert B. Enderton, and was impressed with the rigorous foundation upon which all of modern mathematics lies. I find it incredible how admitting only a few, very conservative ideas can give birth to the large and beautiful structure that is modern mathematics.
