About

I specialize in helping students with dyslexia and dysgraphia improve their reading, spelling and writing skills. A diagnosis of dyslexia or dysgraphia is not required. I can help any child who is having difficulty learning to decode or encode the written word.

I see every student as unique and work to find ways to tap into my students' strengths and interests, and then use those as a pathway to build their language skills.

Most of my students are in grades 1-3, but I can help children in later elementary grades as well. I can take older students whose reading is severely impaired on a case by case basis.

Right now I am especially looking to create a small group intervention for children in 1st or 2nd grade with (or at risk of) dyslexia. I meet with students in an office on Spicewood Springs Road (north Austin between Mopac and 360).

I love the English language, every aspect of it! I love its power, complexity, and history. The story of English is fascinating, and I love helping my students find aspects of it they enjoy, too.

We cannot say enough great things about Sami. She was truly a game changer for our son and our family. Our son (7 years old/2nd grader) was extremely behind in reading and writing (basically illiterate), and because of this, he was losing confidence in himself and refusing to even try to read or write. After much frustration with the lack of attention in school, we decided that we needed outside help. Enter Ms. Sami...
Due to both her personal and professional experience dealing with ADHD and dyslexia in children, she quickly assessed his needs and focused on his reading and writing gaps. We worked exclusively with Sami for ~7 months and hes made tremendous gains in that time. Before working with Sami, he did not have the skills or the confidence to try reading or writing on his own. Fast forward: our son is now able to read simple books/readers, writing and illustrating his own stories, and gaining more confidence with each day.
Sami also helped us recognize the signs of dyslexia and dysgraphia, and provided resources to us, so that we could be well informed to advocate for testing and support from our school. This was huge for us and I know that we saved so much time with the guidance that she provided.
As a tutor, Sami is so knowledgeable, patient, gentle, and kind. She truly cares about literacy in children and is passionate about helping her students succeed.
My son now has the support in school that he needs so that we do not need tutoring during the school year. But we will definitely be engaging Sami for tutoring during the summer. Shes part of our sons team now, and due in large part to her guidance and tutoring, our son will not be another kid that falls through the cracks or some sad statistic.

She is compassionate and dials in on my kids needs. She provides regular updates and the lines of communication are always open. My kid really enjoys working with her and she makes learning seem like they are just hanging out.
