James Transue

As a passionate educator with a double Bachelor's degree in Spanish, and English/Creative Writing from the University of Iowa, I'm here to create a supportive, empathetic learning environment where every student can thrive. I specialize in ESL/ELL instruction, Creative Writing, and Conversational Spanish, as well as any type or age group of English reading, writing, and/or grammar instruction. I spent 2024 gaining classroom and 1-on-1 tutoring experience with English students of all age groups in Spain.

I have always gone into tutoring with the belief that anyone can learn, and become proficient in anything--they just need the right person, plan, and phrasing to fit their brain. As a tutor, I dedicate myself to finding that combination for each student, combining approaches through linguistics, creative expression, experiential learning, and critical thinking. Nothing makes me prouder than seeing a student fully comprehend a concept, or perfectly use a part of speech that they used to struggle with. Like my students, I am always learning, and I use the lessons from my creative writing practice, my peers, and my everyday life to enrich, improve, and iterate upon my teaching practice.
