I will gain my new student's trust by showing myself as an authentic person, who doesn't have either more or less value than my student.

First, I will offer some water.  Then I will let them know that I'm also a learner, and that I like to learn. I will read a simple fun book with expression and thinking aloud, so that if my student feels comfortable, will join me into discussions, or just by smiling or even laughing. Lastly, I will connect the story just read to the content of the first lesson.

I have a Bachelor of Arts in Education with a minor in Spanish, and I have a Masters Degree in Education with emphasis in Curriculum and Instruction from Chapman University, California. I have a bilingual teaching credential from California. I am a retired teacher who taught for 28 years, 26 in California and 2 in Texas. Now days I am a substitute teacher working for Manor Independent School District. I taught at Fullerton community college, and I taught teachers who wanted to get the bilingual credential throughout the Department of Education in Orange County, California.

I usually charge $25.00 per half an hour or $40.00 for one hour.

I began working as a teacher's assistant in my son's classroom. I was a teacher assistant for about ten years before I started teaching.

I have worked with different levels of students from kindergarten to fifth grade. I have taught in regular classrooms where we had inclusion of students with learning disabilities, autism, and ADD. I also taught for a couple of years in bilingual classrooms with students speaking only Spanish and making the transition to English in the next two years.
