About

I honestly love chemistry and helping other people understand the tiny details that make up our collective world. When you get that "Aha!" moment with a student, especially if the conecpt has been really challenging, that moment is so exciting. And if that concept gets an "Aha!" moment, the second, exciting layer is when that students applies that concept to the world around them and gets a second "Whoa!" moment. That is so special to me.

Eli really helped me get through both semesters of Organic Chemistry! She helped me so much in not just understanding the concepts that I needed to know, but also how to apply them. She was extremely patient and explained things in several ways until the concept clicked for me. Would not have made it through Organic Chemistry without her help!!!

Frequently asked questions

The first thing I will do is ask for some specific concept areas the student is learning about in their class - this is so I can refresh and prepare myself for their particular needs. In our first session, I'll get to know them a little bit better - (asking questions and admitting you're confused can be extremely vulnerable so I want to make sure they feel comfortable coming to me for help in the first place). I'll ask some general questions like "what do you like about this class?", "what don't you like about this class", "what has been the most challenging part about this material for you?". Then we'd get started on their questions, either with their homework or general class concepts, and go from there!

I received my Bachelors of Science in Chemistry in 2019 and have spent the past three years out of college working in an analytical chemistry lab. During college I was hired as a first year writing assistant, a teaching assistant for a chemistry lab (Quantitative Analysis), and a learning assistant for a chemistry class (Organic Chemistry II). Additionally, I helped teach my peers while studying together. I also have a lot of experience in customer service jobs and love working with people.

I worked in an analytical chemistry lab after college and realized that I missed learning about the intricacies of chemistry and didn't care for the production side. I found myself having to memorize procedures rather than understand exactly what reactions or interactions were taking place and why. When I think back to my time in academia, I remembered how exciting and fulfilling it was to teach my peers and the students I TA'd the very concepts that blew my mind. I love learning and teaching chemistry and it's now something I've decided to pursue.
