Dunton Business Tutoring
About
Hello! I am orginally from Texas and graduated from Texas A&M University, College Station with my BBA before working for Baker Hughes for nearly 4 years in the O&G industry. I had a strong desire to live and work around the world, so in 2015, I moved to China and started my own consultancy company training and educating a range of clients from high school and university students to business professionals. Recently I went to France and completed my International MBA (with distinction) with the goal of making my company more global. I am currently operating my consulting company, but I really enjoy tutoring in my free time. Helping others is fullfilling to me and also keeps me sharp in the subject matter. I learn from you and your great questions and discussions as well! Personally, I value family, freedom, and fun (and learning of course)! I love any and all sports, writing, and traveling! I am dedicated to helping you excel in any of my subjects and look forward to meeting!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Each one of my tutoring sessions is completely customized, so before the session starts, I will ask for information regarding the content and your goals so that your time with me is maximized. Doing this, I can understand what you need and plan the session to be efficient and effective.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have over 4 years of experience teaching communications (public speaking, writing, presenting, soft skills), business english, and business strategy. I have taught at foreign high schools, training centers, and at Shanghai International Studies University in China. I have also instructed a range of employees from multinationals to startups in these diciplines. During these years, I created a large amount of education and business training content and published a debate and public speaking book in China. I have fully developed programs designed to produce results and was awarded mentor of the year by New Pathway Education & Technology in 2017 & 2018 because of the success of my students.
I also tutor a full range of business subjects, as I have a long educational background in business with a BBA & MBA, both from fully accredited schools ranked in the world top 100 (FT & QS). Both of my degrees were awarded with distinction, and during my MBA, I only had 1 class that was not in the 'A' category (one B+!).
I have 7 years of experience working for mutlinationals including Discover Financial Services and Baker Hughes. Combined with a solid business educational background, I have applied this knowledge in my corporate career as well.
How did you get started teaching?
I began in education and business training in 2015 when I moved to China to start my own business in this area. I saw the rising demand and lack of supply in this market and thought it was a great market to penetrate.
What types of students have you worked with?
In the past 7 years I have worked with a wide range of students, from middle school to business professionals and everything in between.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
The Covid crisis has been a challenge for many, and it has deeply affected my life as well. As a result I have had to leave China and move elsewhere and this is always challenging but also rewarding in some ways. I really enjoy exploring new places, meeting new people, and trying new things, and I have been doing this in my new home lately.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
In business, there is theory and application. In order to master your subject you need to understand both of these. Make sure you get a teacher who is not pure academia and who also understands the real business world. Having this combination is not only practical, but all business subjects (taught well) use case studies and real-world business models in their curriculum. In order to excel in your subject, having a tutor who can help you understand this better will ultimately be able to give you more effective help.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
1. What are your goals? Do you just want the good grades or do you want a better grasp of the content for future studies or for a job?
2. What kind of learner am I? It is important to understand what methods allow you to learn more effectively so you can pass this along to your teacher. There are 4 major categories classifying different types of learning styles. Look this up and reflect on which one(s) you might be.
3. Am I committing to mastering the subject matter? For you to be successful in learning you need 3 things: set realistic goals, get the appropriate guidance, and apply yourself fully. You will succeed if you have all of these elements covered correctly.
