Ted's Tutoring
About
My name is Ted McManus, and I am currently a student at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire pursuing a double major in physics and music. In high school, I received a 1560 SAT composite score, graduated with a 106 GPA, and earned a national AP scholar award, the highest award offered by the college board for AP testing. I scored a 5 on AP physics C mechanics and E&M, AP BC Calculus, AP chem, AP English lit and lang, AP World History, AP US Government, and AP US History. I was a peer tutor at my high school for AP physics in my senior year. In addition, I have studied piano for 15 years, trombone for 11 years, and saxophone for 4 years, with a focus on jazz. I would be open to tutoring in any of the AP subjects listed above, SAT prep, college essay writing, and music.
I enjoy passing along passion - I try not only to help students achieve their academic/personal goals, I try to pass along the interest in the subject that fuels investigation and achievement.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Usually, I employ a few example problems to diagnose areas where a student has some problems with the material. I then provide instruction in what I deem to be the weaker areas of understanding, then re-approach the examples. After completing the initial problems, I introduce more difficult examples to make sure that the material is learned completely.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I was a peer tutor at my high school for AP physics 1&2 and algebra 1 & 2 during my senior year. I have served as a TA for several college music courses, including jazz history and music theory.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I usually charge 20-30$ per hour depending on the circumstances.
How did you get started teaching?
I was approached in high school to be a peer tutor for physics. I found teaching the material fulfilling in many ways - not only did I enjoy helping students reach mastery in a subject, I enjoyed passing along my interest in the subjects I was teaching.
