Math Made Easy
About
Hello! My name is Max Zhang and I am Electrical Engineering student with a heavy background in math. I have been tutoring my younger sister and other undergraduates in courses such as Calculus and Physics for my entire undergraduate career.
I used to have a difficult time understanding concepts from teachers, and nothing they seemed to do in class helped me. Then one of my friends helped me understand the concepts, and I learned more in that hour than I did over a full year of classes.
I want to help as many people have that same opporunity that my friend gave me, because I was able to pursue my engineering degree because of them.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
A student's time is very valuable, and I will not waste it by overloading them with unnessecary theory as my professors have done in the past. I will talk with them first about their experience with math and about some of their strengths and weaknesses they may have.
Usually students hire tutors when they are in dire need, so I will help them with a homework question they may have and assess the difficulties they have with said question.
If they are purely there for tutoring and to learn, then I will provide a short conceptual test and guide them if they have difficulties.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
In terms of education, I am graduating with my B.S. in Electrical Engineering, with a minor in math in December 2022. I have taken several high level courses such as differential equations, linear algebra, and discrete mathematics.
I have also worked as a tennis coach and chess tutor in the past, and have had great success with my students. It is very important to understand that everyone learns at their own pace, and I will guide the students to achieve their full potential.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I am just starting out with an online business, so I will be working on this, but for now I want to make clear that I aim to provide the best quality teaching so I will start with this pricing.
First lesson ($15/hr): To assess your abilities and see if I am a good teacher for you.
Repeating ($30/hr): This will feature a tailored study plan to your specific strengths and weaknesses. I can adjust this if you have certain goals or an exam coming up.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students as young as age 5-16 in tennis, and have worked with students aged 10-22 in math/physics tutoring.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Be very selective with your hiring and find a teacher that is willing to make good use of your time and money.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students should try to assess their own weaknesses to provide teachers a better understanding of what to focus their study plans on.
