Hi everyone!
I am Smaranda, but you can call me Sam, a highly experienced English teacher from Canada, currently living in Mexico. I have over 25 years teaching experience at international level. I have a Master of Applied Linguistics and speak four languages. I can help you with any issues you might have in English, from the lowest to the highest level. I am also an IELTS specialist and have helped many people pass this challenging exam in order to study and/or work in Canada or USA. I hope to hear from you soon!

I love teaching and helping people. The best reward I can get is seeing improvement and good results overall in my students. I am patient and persistent until I can see positive outcomes. I use repetition whenever necessary, without any problems, and never get tired or impatient as this is a learning process and I motivate students to not give up until they can see for themselves that they have made progress in their studies.
I taught English on four continents and am familiar with various cultures, so I can relate and adapt to different customs and situations quite easily. I use a variety of teaching methodology and give and encourage the students to give examples from real life experience and events.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I introduce myself and ask him/her some things about themselves, including hobbies, likes and dislikes, and especially find out their strengths and weaknesses in English, so I get a general idea of their immediate needs. Based on what I hear and see, I can make suggestions for improvement, apart from the actual lesson (do more reading, listening, writing and suggesting free sites where they can practise). I take notes as they speak and give them feedback on what I think they should work on to improve their skills. I use repetition whenever necessary and correct mispronunciation or spelling errors, whatever the case may be. I occasionally use humor and try to keep them at ease. I encourage them to ask questions and make sure they do not feel judged...they are, after all, on their way to improvement.
