About
My service stands out because I do a lot of preparation before the session even starts to make sure students are getting the highest quality instruction they can receive. I make sure the instruction is class specific by reviewing old tests, hw, and classwork.
This greatly improves the chances for success in the students because this allows the student to improve on areas he or she may struggle with, and meanwhile improve on new areas. This is crucial because most of the subjects I teach are cumulative.
For ACT Prep students, my strategy is always to work on the easiest problems first. This gives students a boost of confidence, and it gives their scores a boost too, since all of the questions on the ACT are worth the same amount. This has a snowball effect that really gives students the best chance to overcome their most challenging questions and achieve success.
I enjoy preparing lessons, working through challenging problems with students, and seeing the lightbulb moment! I also love seeing students accomplishing their personal goals as a result of their hard work and my expertise.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to assess the student in the subject area. I often like to sample from the resources the student is already using so that any gains made from the tutoring can be applied directly to the class.
For ACT Prep students, I have my own practice tests that I use. This process can be sped up if the student has previous material that they are willing to share with me. Once my assessment of the student has been made, I like to take 15-25 minutes to talk about the student's goals with the student and his or her parents. Once that is complete, most of the rest of the time is spent on practice problems and explanations. I typically ask the student to do a homework assignment that focuses on definitions or is simply practice problems. This helps the student build a framework for what he or she is supposed to know, and it makes the tutoring process more efficient because more time can be spent on explanation of the problem rather than doing the problem itself.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a bachelor's in mathematics, and I have over two years' experience in private tutoring and working as a tutor combined.
