Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I will assess where their current skill level is. Then we will put together a success plan for them. We will continue to evaluate the plan on a weekly basis to make sure we are hitting all the milestones to achieve their success.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have 20 years of teaching experience. I am a licensed Spanish teacher. I have many lesson plans and materials to meet each student's needs. I have taught all ages and levels of Spanish.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My pricing schedule is hourly and is negotiated during the interview. I believe this is better then a timed contract as a student may learn faster or slower then a timed contract would allow. I also like hourly because it lets both parties decide if it is a good fit.
How did you get started teaching?
I spent many summers in Guatemala with my host family learning Spanish. After High School I went to Concordia College in Moorhead, MN. I taught for 17 years at the elementary school in Lake Park, MN. During this time I got my Masters Degree at Southwest University. In 2014 I started teaching high school Spanish at Anderson County High School in Clinton, TN.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with all types of students with all types of backgrounds from kindergarten to high school. I've worked with students with special needs. I have worked with very intelligent students and help them excel to the highest level of Spanish.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
First and for most make sure they are experts in the field you are wanting to learn. Second make sure there is a good connection with your teacher you are going to hire. Don't be afraid to ask questions during the interview.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Have they done everything they can to be successful in that class?
Are they willing to dedicate the time it will take to learn the skills of the class?
They have to be open with the teacher. Do not be afraid to ask questions.
