Hannings Spanish And ACT Tutoring
About
Hello! I am a former high school educator, both in public and private education, turned stay at home mom. I hold a Tennessee state teaching license in 6-12 Spanish and K-12 ESL. I have formly taught High School Spanish for 6 years as well as ACT private tutoring and classes. My joy is found in helping students gain the skills they need to think critically and learn how to solve problems on their own both inside and outside the classroom. That begins by presenting new material in easy to understand ways and continues by learning skills on how to retain and build on knowledge acquired.
Students can easily get behind when they are overwhelmed by new learning. My job is to assess where a student is currently in understanding and to help them to see what is just the next step. It's by looking at just the next step when we are able to make progress.
I look forward to helping you take your next step in learning!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When working with a new student, I will first assess their current level of understanding and what he/she has already done in study efforts. I will do this by asking a series of questions depending on the content we are studying to identify background knowledge and where the breakdown in understanding is occurring. From there, we will also work to assess what the goals are as we create a plan to work together.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Current Tennessee Teaching License:
-6-12 Spanish; K-12 ESL
6 years of classroom experience in high school Spanish
5 years of ACT private tutoring and classroom teacher
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Spanish Tutoring: $30 full hour tutoring/$15 half hour tutoring
ACT Tutoring: $50 full hour tutoring/$25 half hour tutoring
How did you get started teaching?
While studying Spanish and International Business in college, I worked part time as a tutor for my university as well as teaching ACT private tutoring and classes for another company. After graduation I began teaching full time in public education. I also spent time teaching in a private international school in Asia.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
While looking for a tutor, you should look for someone not just with content knowledge but the ability to communicate. Tutors should be able to help students learn to ask the right questions and learn to problem solve on their own.
