Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I will start by asking the student about what they are learning in class and what they are struggling with. I will then ask the student how they learn best, and begin working with the student to improve whatever skills they are struggling with.
I may also reach out to the student's teacher to ensure I am helping the student make progress in assigned class material.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelors degree in Secondary Education with a focus in 6th-12th grade English.
How did you get started teaching?
After I got my teaching degree, I taught at Loudon High School for 2 years. I quit teaching because of overexertion and overwhelming demand on my home life.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have most of my experience with lower socioeconomic students, however, I am trained in working with all students.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
1. Students need to determine the easiest ways for them to learn: virtually, in person, kinesthetic (touch/action), visual, or auditory.
2. Be very honest about what you are struggling with in class. Everyone struggles with something.
