About

I love reading and I want my students to enjoy it too. I will challenge each student but I also want them to enjoy being challenged and showing their progress. My instruction is based on the needs of the each student. Together we will set goals and the steps to achieve them. I will use their strengths to remediate their weakness(es) and use praise to show success. I want students to look forward to working with me through the entire tutoring experience. Their success is my success too.

I taught for 19 years in grades kindergarten through 6th grade in public schools. I taught special education through direct instruction and collaboratively in the regular classrooms. I received my Bachelor's and Master's degrees in education at the University of the Cumberlands. I was certified to teach regular education students K-6 and special education k-8. I was Kentucky's Special Education of the Year in 1991. My students had specific learning disabilities, physical disabilities, and students with mild mental disabilities. I also received an endorsement in early childhood from Eastern Kentucky University. I did individual instruction as well as collaborative teaching in regular education classes. I also helped coach the academic team for a couple of years and tutored regular education students after school. I enjoyed the instruction that led to success. I also enjoyed helping each student based on their individual needs. I will use my education and experience to identify strengths and weaknesses and design my instruction on them. I like to use a student's strengths to remediate weaknesses. I don't like to only focus on weaknesses as student's don't like to do this and all reading skills are interrelated. If done correctly, which I intend to do, my instruction will make their strengths stronger too.

I have both a Bachelor's and Master's degrees in regular and special education. I taught for 19 years. I know how to tailor instruction to meet the needs of the student. I'm willing to help at all times and am able to keep records to show progress.

My lessons will be $12 per half hour. If extra time is needed, I will include it in the $12. If it is for an hour it will be $25.  The introductory meeting is free and the length will be determined by the time needed for the introductions and questions.

I went to college and was drawn to teaching both regular and special education students. So my Bachelor's degree was in both. When I completed my Master's I was already teaching and loved it. So, my Master's degree was also in regular and special education and later I received my early childhood education to use with my youngest students with delays. I enjoyed teaching for 19 years and still enjoy it.

Regular students grades 1-5 and special education students with specific learning disabilities, mild mental handicaps, and student's with physical disabilities.
