Local High School Tutors
About
Hello! I am Sharon, and I am a junior at Hume Fogg High School in Nashville. I have tutored many students in the past, but I especially have a fondness for helping young students achieve academic success. I want to make sure that they fully understand the material they learn, and I really care about their progress. For the first meeting, I will offer a free 15 minute consultation where we will discuss your goals and how they will be met. I will set up a lesson plan for you when I get that information, and work diligently to help you achieve those goals. As for my qualifications, I have received a 1440 on the PSAT with a perfect score in reading, and a near perfect score in math and writing. I have also received a 34 composite score on the ACT (35 english, 33 math, 34 reading, and 32 science). I have also maintained a 3.97 GPA throughout middle and high school. Although I am a high school student, I would like to prove to you my work ethic and my love for teaching students!
Like I said earlier, I really find it invigorating to see the students I teach improve. I am invested in your success, and you can reach out for help by contacting me even outside tutoring hours. I have experience from running and creating a small organization that offers free tutoring for local elementary and middle schoolers with a website and social media outreach, but to be really honest, I need to raise money to help my parents pay for college for me and my younger siblings. But through this, I want you to know that I do not take teaching for money lightly. I want to use every minute I have with purpose, and if there were distractions or technical difficulties (if we are virtual), I will add more time at the end! Thank you so much, and please consider me as your (or your child's) tutor!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We would schedule a 15-minute consultation discussing what the student's goals are, and I would create a lesson plan of how the goals would be met once we finish calling. Then, we would follow the lesson plans and adjust as needed! The student should feel free to ask questions outside of tutoring hours as well.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have tutored many students (my age and under) throughout high school both professionally and informally (like when friends ask for help).
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Usually, I charge $40 an hour, but it may change according to the student's and their family's need.
How did you get started teaching?
I got started by tutoring my brothers. My mom would always make me tutor them, and it was then that I realized I actually liked teaching kids and that I wanted to do more of it.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with a large variety of students. I have worked with students my age, tutoring them in test prep and coursework, but I have also tutored many younger students (typically elementary and middle schoolers) in different subjects ranging from foreign language to reading comprehension.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
A recent student of mine from Korea wanted to learn English, and because she was so young (3rd grade) and because I could not find a translation game that could be implemented online, so I created a game that had 18 levels that we would play and learn over the course of 2 months. She, her 5-year-old younger sister, and even her mother loved the game, and they all earned many different words.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would like to advise you to not commit to one tutor until you know they are a good fit for you that will not waste your money. And the best way to be sure is to request an introductory meeting. I myself have been on the tutor search, and most of the tutors had technical difficulties wasting much time, but they still charged more money when we went overtime.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
I think you should make sure to have goals you want to meet and have a timeline of when you want them to be met. That way your teachers can better plan your progress!
