I have been a math teacher for thirty (30) years and believe all students want to succeed whether it's math or any other subject and just need the proper help to accomplish this goal.
I enjoy seeing the joy and amazement on students faces when they realize that they are able to achieve and learn math topics that may at first seemed somewhat difficult. I explain to students that everything they learn is like completing a puzzle. Before the puzzle is completed we get to see the completed puzzle on the box containing the pieces; however to complete the puzzle it will take effort and sometimes that effort will include trial and error in which some pieces may or may not fit. Just like the box which contains all the necessary pieces to complete the puzzle they also have all the pieces needed to solve a problem which also take effort. My role with them is simply helping and working with them to put the pieces together to get the completed results.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My process for working with students is to first identify what is the problem needing to be solved and what is it that the student knows and does not know about solving the problem.
