Reading Begins Here
About
I am the mother of a very bright child who had great difficulty learning to read. Through my search to help him, I eventually became an intervention specialist in the public schools, where I taught hundreds of children who needed individualized instruction in reading. I am recently retired, but my certification is current, and I would love to meet your child and help him or her gain the skills needed to become a happy, confident reader.
I love to see a child's confidence return!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I require meeting at least twice a week for 40- 45 minutes each session. Some families may prefer 3, 30 minute sessions.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am currently certified as an intervention specialist, hold a master's degree and am a retired teacher who focused on reading intervention.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I ask $75 weekly.
How did you get started teaching?
I began teaching at the college level in Columbus, Ohio, but after having children of my own, I found that I enjoyed teaching elementary school.
What types of students have you worked with?
For the past 20 years, I focused on working with elementary students who, despite having good academic potential, had difficulty learning in the typical school setting.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
My daughter recently worked with a young woman who was worried about her son's struggle to learn to read. After working with him and showing his mother some ways to help him, the mother returned and told me how much progress her son was making. The joy of seeing parents and children feeling successful is the best motivation of all.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Since I work with very young children, I would recommend to the parent that they find someone who is not attached to only one way or one system of working with a child. Every child really is different, and often a combination of different approaches and materials is the most helpful.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
I like to know what each child is interested in reading about so that I can work with materials that they find exciting.
