About

Hello Everyone!

My name is Adam Morris, and I am thrilled at the prospect of helping you (or your child) achieve academic and personal success.

I would like to begin by providing insight into my academic experiences, both as a student and as an instructor. I graduated from high school in the top ten percent of my class and attended the University of Texas at Austin. Following my sophomore year, I decided to take the year off and rediscover my purpose, which ultimately became one of the best decisions I would ever make. I returned to school the following year refocused and reinvigorated with the goal of pursuing teaching and academia. I attended Blinn College for one year and changed my major to English before returning to the University of Texas and graduating in 2010. I spent my first seven post-graduation years as an employee of the Montgomery Independent School District in Montgomery, Texas--one semester as a substitute, four years as a high school advanced English teacher/dual credit instructor and track coach, and three years an elementary (5th grade) teacher.

Early on in my career, I began pursuing my Master of Arts in English at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. Over the course of my graduate program, the quality of my work consistently improved, culminating in my master's thesis, "Of Pyrates and Picaros: The Literary Lineage of Charles Johnson's A General History of the Pyrates." I graduated with a 4.0 on December 9, 2017, and accepted an offer into the English Language and Literature doctoral program at the University of South Carolina in February 2018. I moved to South Carolina in August and have spent the past and current semesters engaging in my own studies while teaching courses in critical reading/composition and rhetoric/composition. I also served as an adjunct instructor in English at Allen University for one semester before moving to Fort Mill.

Throughout my career, I've tutored many students, from elementary to college age, in a variety of subjects (English/reading/writing, math, science, social studies/history, state assessments, and SAT prep). My years of experience in teaching and tutoring leave me confident in my abilities to establish relationships with students and help them succeed. I would love the opportunity to work with you.

Best,

Adam Morris, M.A.

I enjoy helping others make progress towards and achieve their goals. My motivation for becoming a teacher was to have a significant impact on future generations by helping students grow intellectually and personally. I've never wavered in this mission, nor will I.

Frequently asked questions

My typical process is to begin by gathering information and establishing a relationship. Through conversation, my student as I will get to know one another, discover the area(s) that we should focus on, and establish goals. Once we've done this, we can plan a measurable course of action.

I prefer to charge by the hour as opposed to by the session. I charge $30/hour, but this price is negotiable depending upon student/family needs.

I currently work with college freshmen. As a high school teacher, I taught freshman, sophomores, and seniors of various academic skill levels. I taught everything from remedial 9th grade English to advanced (Pre-AP) 10th grade English to dual credit English (high school and college credit). I taught a similarly diverse population of students as a 5th-grade teacher.

I would advise a student to hire someone who practices what they preach. For example, if you are in need of writing instruction, you should consider whether or not your teacher actively writes. While someone who engages in a particular activity may not be able to teach it, a teacher who actively engages with their subject matter likely has a wealth of knowledge to pull from.

Additionally, a student should always try to gauge whether or not a teacher has the students success and best interest at heart.

The primary questions should be: 1) What areas am I strong in, and what areas really challenge me? 2) What are my goals/what do I want out of this? 3) What am I willing to do to achieve those goals?
