Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We begin an assessment of looking at what a student is doing for a class and where s/he when we meet for the first time. We create a plan to bridge any gaps between where the student is and where s/he wants or needs to be.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Master of Arts in Spanish. I have taught beginning and intermediate Spanish for more than 30 years.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My standard pricing is $30.00 per hour. However, a student who receives tutoring 2 times per week can expect a standard charge of $20.00 per week.
How did you get started teaching?
I began teaching as a graduate student many years ago. I enjoyed the language and the sharing information so I continued to teach.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have taught elementary school students, high schools students and college and university students. I have enjoyed each level because students' motivations for learning vary quite a bit. It is fun to see each type of student learn Spanish.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I enjoy the local Latin festival becuase it includes my love of Hispanic people, culture and music.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would suggest that the student have a clear idea of what /he needs. I would also suggest students find out as much as possible about the tutor's experience in helping students if his/her current academic level. S/he should find out whether the tutor has experience with the materials that s/he currently uses.
