Frequently asked questions

The first session will always be about finding out what works for the student and what areas actually need to be addressed.  There is no "one size fits all" approach to learning, so figuring this out early is key to making real progress.  Once this method is established, a combination of assignments and tutoring sessions can be used to bolster the students skills necessary for them to succeed not only in their current courses, but in courses they may take in the future as well.

I have a B.S. in Biolgical Sciences and Russian, an M.S. in Biological Sciences, and am currently working on my PhD in Biological Sciences.  I have taught an introductory level biology course, Ecology and Evolution, and then helped design and currently teach a Genetics course at the University of South Carolina.

I use a flat rate system of $40 per hour with no more than 2hrs to be booked concurrently as it simply isn't helpful beyond that (and suggest single hour sessions in general). The sessions can take place at your home (if the distance is significant, a small additional fee may apply) or in study rooms within the university.

For people that want additional accomodations (extra assignments, between session contact for extra help, etc), additional pricing can be negotiated.

I was in the navy for a short while (9.5yrs), and during that time I acted as the primary trainer for my division, figuring out ways to get different people to learn different things was very fun to me, almost like a puzzle, and I loved it!  So, when I was about to hit my 10yr mark, I left and came back to university to study biology, genetics specifically, with the aim of teaching once I have completed my PhD.

As an instructor, all kinds!  Truly, freshman to seniors from all walks of life and trying to make sure they have all of the tools necessary to succeed is my driving force as an instructor.

Make sure you mesh, not every teacher is right for every student, and the better the fit, the better the instruction capable of being delivered.  While the information may be the same, the delivery really is important, and just like every student learns their own way, every teacher imparts information their own way as well.
