About
After receiving my master’s degree in English from the University of Rhode Island. I began a teaching career in the Berkshire Mountains of western Massachusetts. Quite a change for someone who grew up in the city of Providence, Rhode Island. I loved teaching and enjoyed watching students learn and grow. Soon I became involved with the school newspaper and yearbook, and the adviser to the senior class.
I later moved to administration, but by the time I reached the superintendent’s office, I realized it was a mistake to move into administration. As an administrator, my time was taken up with endless meetings, committees, and court cases, as narcotics worked their way into my school system. Sadly, the job moved me further and further away from my students. After much thought and family discussion, I decided to leave education for the business world.
After owning a successful business for two years, I was offered the opportunity to sell out to a larger company and become their training director, which put me back into the teaching business, although with a different clientele. The main thrust of my job was hiring and training salespeople for our dealer network, which had the side benefit of travel, around the country and the world from Alaska to Saudi Arabia. However, even in the business world, I gravitated toward teaching which has always been my first love. Ultimately, after retiring, I returned to teaching.
A family move to Philadelphia led to teaching in community colleges, which I found very rewarding. I particularly enjoyed working with students who had the courage to return to school after many years.
My biggest surprise came, however, when I accepted my first online course. I was amazed at how effective online interaction could be, and I still marvel at how effectively I can communicate with students I never meet in person.
What do I do when I am not teaching? I write and publish mystery/adventure novels. I have 3 published. My most recent was published in 2019 and I am working on the fourth Joe Crane Mystery, Murder at Willow Beach.
I walk on the beach to think and ride my bicycle for exercise.
I am looking forward to getting to know you and working with you to achieve success.
I enjoy the opportunity to help student’s change their lives by mastering the ability to write and understand Standard American English, which will help them move their lives forward in their careers and their daily interactions.
