Foreign Language Help
About
I'm a college student who has always had a passion for learning and sharing knowledge. I love studying foreign languages, particularly Mandarin and Spanish. I have experience tutoring both subjects while I was in high school. I have been tutoring for three years now. Currently, I hold informal Spanish lessons for my friends. In high school, I earned many awards for foreign languages, including World Language Scholar, National Spanish Exam Silver Award, and earned a 4 on my AP Spanish exam; a grade comparable to that of native speakers. I took Spanish for six years, reaching the highest levels offered at my high school and college, and took Mandarin for three years. I attended a two-week long Mandarin Chinese immersion camp, and later spent two weeks in China.
I love how learning a new language stretches your brain in ways never thought possible. It's like solving a big puzzle, and when the pieces fit together it feels so rewarding. Also, learning a new language opens your mind to other modes of thought, and makes you a more flexible, on-your-toes thinker. It also teaches you about a new culture and helps you meet new people.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I want to teach what the student wants to learn. I ask questions such as if they have material they need to go over for a test, and what areas they particularly struggle with. I also want to make foreign languages exciting for the student. If they have certain interests, I would love to teach them vocabulary to express that. I am a very engaging teacher and want the student to love learning.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have six years of Spanish classes, and three years of Mandarin. I also attended a Mandarin immersion camp.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students who say they cannot learn a foreign language. I am a firm believer anybody can become fluent, and will work patiently with a student to help them reach their potential.
