I have spent my entire career as a reading teacher I taught in a public elementary school for many years Since retiring, I have been doing private tutoring for children ages 5-12 I am passionate about teaching and love working with children.
I get such delight when I see a child being successful. My goal when working with children, is so focus on their strengths while remediating their weaknesses.

Jan was amazing with my fourth grader. She went above and beyond to make sure he was engaged and provides help to meet his specific reading needs.

Janice Belasco was able to assess my children and provide direct instruction based on their individual needs. She provided the activities, tasks and materials. My children were engaged , enthusiastic and eager working with Jan. Best of all they were motivated and happy because they made progress.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to do a quick assessment so I can get a sense of a child's strengths and weaknesses.
I also like to talk to the student to get to know them in terms of their interests, and what they think they need help with.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Master's Degree in teaching reading I also have many years of experience
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My pricing is $30 for 1/2 hour. I have found that younger students do best with thirty minutes. Within this time frame, we are able to do a variety of different activities, all relating to what the student needs.
How did you get started teaching?
I spent my entire career teaching. From a very young age, it is what I always wanted to do. Even after so many years, I am still passionate about helping children be all that they can be.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with children of varying backgrounds. I have taught the general education population as well as children with IEPs.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I am always fond of any reading incentive events, whether they are nationwide, such as Read Across America, or local events sponsored by a school, library or charity.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I always suggest setting up a time to chat before any hire. This is the time to ask questions and also introduce yourself to see if the teacher is a good fit for what you need.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
I would suggest that a student be honest about their struggles as well as their feelings toward a subject. In my case it would be about reading. I would also ask the teacher how they will know what to do to help me.
