About

Hello there! My name is Samantha. I am a Spanish tutor in Pittsburgh, PA. I am 25 years old, and I've been studying/teaching Spanish since I was 14. Upon graduating high school, I received a full tuition scholarship to study Spanish Literature in college. While I was in college, I was a Spanish tutor for other university students for 4 years. After college, I lived in Barcelona, Spain for a year where I taught English to K-12 students.

I am currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Teaching Foreign Language at the University of Pittsburgh in order to become a certified K-12 teacher. As a student teacher, I love sharing Spanish language and culture with my students. I will be graduating with my Masters and teaching certification in June 2021.

I love that "Ah-Ha!" moment. I love working with students who are struggling in a class, and getting them to the point that they understand the material enough to practice it without help.

Frequently asked questions

I like to assess prior knowledge of the subject area in order to figure out their strengths and weaknesses. That way, I can tailor my teaching to their individual needs.

I started tutoring Spanish in college, and then I taught English in Spain for a year after college. I wasn't sure I wanted to be a teacher at first, but after experiencing it first hand, I fell in love.

For Thanksgiving, I had my students in Spanish class write a poem about someone they're thankful for. After the class ended, a student reached out to me and told me he loved my lesson. He said it really made him think about the person in his life that he's most thankful for, and he spent more time after class reflecting on his poem.

Look for a teacher who will listen and respond to your needs. Also, look for a teacher who will teach you the language and not ABOUT the language. The more opportunities you have to practice Spanish, the better you will be over time.

Ask yourself: What are some things I'm really good at? What are some areas in which I can improve? What is my goal/purpose for learning the language? What do I hope to learn from my experience?
